Fredricksburg, TX | Travel Diary

I have been itching to travel lately! It’s been three months since my last trip and I have been needing to just get out of my own space. My boyfriend and I have put together a list of places we want to see and visit this year and we already have a few trips lined up! We have been wanting to do a lot of road trips so that we can travel with Boba, my 10 month old Australian Shepard. To test the waters, and just kind of get out of the house and do something new, we decided to take a spur of the moment mini road trip to Fredricksburg, TX! If you’re new, I live right outside of Austin, so this isn’t a far trip for me, only about a 2 hour drive, but this would be Boba’s very first trip!

We packed up our overnight bags, Boba’s bed, and a few toys, and we hit the road. I wanted more of a cabin feel, so we searched on AirBnB and found a ton of quaint, cute little homes. The place we picked was super cozy and had us feeling right at home.

Fredricksburg is full of amazing wineries, so although Hugo and I aren’t huge wine drinkers, we had to make a pit stop! We looked up dog friendly wineries in the area and about 90% of them were welcoming to furry friends! The one that stood out the most though… Fat Ass Ranch and Winery. Yep. How could we not go?

As I mentioned earlier, Hugo and I don’t really drink wine so we don’t really know the difference between bad six dollar finds and an aged twenty year old eighty dollar bottle. This winery was know for their sweet, fruity flavored wines – they didn’t even carry reds! It worked out great for us because, of course, our extremely refined taste buds gravitate more towards super sweet white wines! We did a tasting that featured a peach, watermelon jolly rancher, cranberry “holiday” flavor, strawberry, and a sangria. Besides the cranberry flavor, Hugo loved all of them! However, I could only get down with the sangria, peach, and strawberry! Overall, not a bad tasting, of us, it was only $20, wine glasses included!

I didn’t get any photos from the night we arrived because it was so dark and we mainly did outdoor activities so that we could take Boba everywhere with us. Main Street in Fredricksburg is filled with a ton of mom and pop shops and amazing food places, so we walked the streets with Boba and checked out a few of the stores. For dinner we went to an amazing place called Hondo’s that seemed to be “the spot” around there. The menu isn’t super vegetarian friendly, so I went with a quesadilla and Hugo had steak enchiladas. We also split the most mouth watering cheesy curly fries, covered in chipotle ranch. It was my goodbye meal to my old friend, cheese. You will be missed in 2018. Gone but not forgotten.

It was such an awesome trip and I am so glad we got to do it before Hugo had to leave town to go back to school! Sometimes you just need a night away. I am looking forward to many more road trips this year, our next stop hopefully being Denver! If you have any suggestions of places to check out, please let me know below! Thank you so much for reading! XO

How to Pack and Prepare for Travel

If you saw my 2017 Highlight Reel, you may have noticed I travel pretty often. (If you haven’t seen that post, you can find it right here!) Whether it be to a tropical island, NYC, LA, or just a city over, I always write up a Travel Checklist to make sure I don’t forget all the important stuff! I’m attaching my personal checklist, that I designed, with all the basic needs for any trip! Feel free to print it out and use on your own!

This checklist covers all the essentials and has come in handy so many times! I don’t know what it is about packing, but it’s like I go temporarily insane and forget everything! I don’t know how many times I’ve left my boarding pass at home, or even my phone charger! I like to bring a carry-on backpack and then a carry-on suitcase for most trips. If I’m going on a week long (or longer) excursion, I usually end up with a backpack, small carry-on suitcase, and then checking a large suitcase.

In my backpack, I place all my “entertainment” items from the checklist above. These are all the items that you’re going to want to keep easily accessible on the plane! I also keep my “essential” items in the front pocket of my backpack because these are things I’m going to constantly have to pull in and out. Then depending on the size of my backpack, I’ll place a few of my “comfort” items in there (snacks, eye mask, blanket, etc.) or in my carry-on suitcase. Things like the neck pillow or blanket you can also just hold or wrap around your suitcase handle. I promise the flight attendants wont bother you about those items being left out since they know you will be using them on your flight.

For my makeup bag, I’m usually going to events specific to makeup, so personally I pack a full face. Of course you can tweak this next list to better suit your travel needs, but this is just what I go off of!

Purple and Cream Stripes Packing List

I created a little video a while back showing how I pack my makeup for travel, I’ll attach it below to give you a visual. My favorite makeup bag (shown in the video) is from PurseN! They have so many different sized bags and ones for all sorts of things, not just makeup! In the video I am using in the video is the Diva Makeup Travel Bag, but it’s seriously giant and you probably don’t need all of that unless you throw in your skincare as well. The one I usually use is the Tiffany Makeup Travel Bag, which is smaller but still has tons of room for all your products. For my makeup brushes, I never store them in the same bag as my makeup. I like to use cylinder brush holders, like this Sigma one, so the brushes don’t get flattened or frayed.

For all of my skincare/toiletries, I pack them separate from my makeup, but again you can do whatever is best for you! I also have a pretty intense skincare routine, so you definitely don’t need all of the items on this next list! Since I usually pack miniature items in my toiletries bag, I just use any regular sized makeup bag. I recently bought a little plastic one at Forever 21 and it works out just fine!

Purple and Cream Stripes Packing List (1)

Just remember that if you are taking any of your toiletries onto the plane in a carry-on bag, make sure liquids don’t exceed the 3.4 ounces limit or that you’re not bringing along any aerosol cans. Another tip, always put liquids in plastic baggies, or at the very least use a plastic makeup bag, just in case anything spills over or explodes from the pressure.

Moving into the actual suitcase, this is pretty self explanatory, packing-wise, and different for each traveler. Always check weather ahead of time and if you have any activities planned, pack accordingly.

My favorite brand for luggage is Away! I have the “bigger carry on” and it’s perfect size for a weekend trip of clothes and shoes. I definitely recommend getting a set of both that one and the “large” one, then you’ll have room for any sized trip. I like to bring both when I travel long periods of time, or overseas. It also has a portable charger built into it with room for two USB cords – major key.

I know it’s hard to not over-pack and bring your entire closet with you, but if you do find yourself running out of space and you can’t leave any of the items at home, one of the most popular packing tips is to roll up your clothes, rather than fold! This doesn’t work well with thicker clothing (winter apparel) but if you have t-shirts, shorts, etc., it’s super helpful! If you know what activities you will be doing or events you will be attending, plan outfits accordingly and try not to bring anything you know you probably wont be wearing. The last thing you want is to lug around a ton of items you wont even be using, and have them taking up space! Packing a lot of versatile pieces, like one pair of jeans or a sweater that will match any outfit you’re bringing, helps save space, too! Always make sure you have a little bit of extra room in your suitcase for items you make take home with you, as well!

Those are my best packing tips and tricks! I hope those of you traveling soon found this helpful! Be safe on your travels and take lots of photos! Thank you so much for reading!

Highlights of 2017

As we start wrapping up the end of the year, now is a good time to take a look back on 2017 and reflect on all that you have accomplished and achieved. I wanted to take this time to look back on all that I have done this past year and get myself excited for all that is coming up in 2018!

Starting at the beginning, I started off the year on a trip of a lifetime with PUR Cosmetics to Anguilla, St. Barth’s, and St. Maarten! The islands were gorgeous, I met and became friends with amazing influencers I had looked up to for so long, and we were absolutely spoiled by the brand!

We stayed at the Four Seasons in St. Maarten and the rooms were insane! It was like a decent sized apartment with an incredible balcony, amazing view, and a hot tub! Each night we came into our rooms to find all new products from PUR, and some special gifts!

This trip brought so many exciting launches from PUR, which ended up being some of my favorite products in 2017, and the friendships I made on this trip I’ll cherish forever. This was my first big brand trip so it was pretty unreal! I couldn’t even believe I was there or that PUR invited me! Crazy, I will never get over it!

January also brought me to Minnesota with Sigma Beauty! This trip was special because it was a one on one meeting the brand and we even did a fun photo shoot! The owner of Sigma, Simone, was so incredibly sweet and welcoming, making myself and Hugo (my boyfriend) feeling right at home.

This was a quick two day trip, but we packed so much in to it! We had a welcome dinner,  office tour, photo shoot, visited Mall of America and the Sigma flagship store, a fun trip at the Nickelodeon theme park, tour of Minneapolis, and then a goodbye dinner! Another unforgettable trip and amazing time. I definitely want to go back to Minnesota – it was such a blast!

Shortly after that Sigma trip, we had another one in February to celebrate the launch of the 3DHD blenders in LA! Sigma flew Hugo and I out for another quick 24 hour trip and it was such an awesome time! This was also the first time I met Chloe Morello and I almost passed out because she’s a real life angel! We sucked at documenting this trip, but I do have a photo of me and all the blenders I stole from the party. LOL.

In March, Hugo and I found ourselves in Turks and Caicos with Tarte Cosmetics! This was a pretty big deal for Tarte to invite smaller influencers like myself on a brand trip! There were a few new launches on the trip, but it was mostly a “meet the brand” type of trip, which was awesome! Prior to this trip, I had been to NYC for the VMA’s with Tarte, but this was a little more personal and a true bonding experience! You can watch my vlog here!

We had so much fun on this trip and experienced things we never would have done on our own, like mastering the trapeze! They even got Hugo to participate in 30 minutes of yoga, LOL! It was also great to meet and discover new influencers/bloggers, who are now close friends of mine!

In April, I went to another tropical island, this time with family! My family and I went on a week long trip to Punta Cana and had such a nice and relaxing break. We stayed at the Hard Rock, which was insanely huge and had constant events going on, and the view from our hotel room was gorgeous! After all the time spent in tropical destinations this year, I was wondering why the heck I don’t just live there. There’s just nothing like it! Such a great time!

In May, I turned 21! Although I didn’t do much or get real ~wild~ on my actual birthday, it was so incredibly special to me because so many brands I have worked and grown close with sent me champagne and flowers and made me feel amazing! I am so thankful for all the support they, and many others, have shown me!

For my birthday, my boyfriend gave me an insane present of absolutely way too many hot Cheetos (heaven) and a sweet, local follower of mine made me my dream cake!

AND THE BEST GIFT OF ALL… ONE I GAVE MYSELF. My sweet angel, Boba 💘 I really can’t even imagine life before him and it’s so crazy to think that I only adopted him a few months ago! He has my whole heart and I am so excited to spend many more years with my little bean!

This was the first day we brought him home! He was SO tiny and fluffy! The biggest lover, too, he didn’t want to leave my side! It’s so crazy to think about how tiny he was!

In June, I teamed up with my best friend, and owner of Time Los Angeles, to launch my very first merch collaboration! Ashley and I collaborated on the designs and then launched them at Phamexpo!

Phamexpo is a huge makeup trade show located in Pasadena each year. This was Ashley’s second trade show and I have helped out and had meet and greets at each of them. It was such an awesome experience to do something like this with one of my closest friends – I love her so much! The love we received on the collaboration was so humbling and I am so grateful to have the support that I do from so many of you. I appreciate you all so much!

Later in June, I was invited on a trip to LA in celebration of the relaunch of Kat Von D’s Saint and Sinner perfume. This was once of my biggest highlights from this past year because Kat Von D put together the invitation list herself and then later at her party, greeted me by name! I was absolutely in shock. I love Kat and her cosmetics line so much, so it was such a surreal moment for me.

They put us up at the Hollywood Roosevelt, a legendary experience, and we were greeted in our rooms with hand selected gifts from Kat, including the new perfumes! My personal favorite is Saint. Also, all my friends happened to have to same hair color at once. It was truly iconic.

In July, I was flown out to Atlanta with PUR cosmetics for one of my biggest accomplishments this year – Brand Ambassador for their My Little Pony: The Movie collection! I have a really adventurous vlog you can check out here!

This was when we did the photoshoot for the campaign! It was such a cool experience because I had never had a real photoshoot with hair, makeup, and a stylist!

The PUR team and I grew super close on this one and one trip and I am so thankful to have them and their support. They truly are such genuine people and I love the message of their brand so much.

Right after that trip, in August, I went on another #trippinwithtarte trip! This time, mom style! Tarte invited a ton of influencers on a weekend trip in Santa Monica with each of their moms! It was such a refreshing trip, to see everyone with their moms and being so down to earth. Plus, it was such a great treat for all our moms – Tarte really knows how to spoil someone!

This was such a fun girls trip and I made sure to document it all for you guys so be sure to watch the vlog! My mom is such a nut, LOL.

At the end of August, it was time for Beautycon LA with PUR Cosmetics for the My Little Pony: The Movie collection! It was my very first Beautycon and my first meet and greet, so I was super nervous at first, but it was so unreal meeting so many of you! Full vlog here!

This trip was also for the MLP: The Movie Collection launch party with all of my friends and favorite people! We had such a cute brunch and it was everything my 8 year old self could have possibly dreamed up!

PUR and I also went to Disneyland, which if you know me, I’m a Disney STAN so I was the happiest person on the planet! When I lived in California, and even when I moved to Vegas, we had Disney passes and constantly went, so moving to Texas and hardly ever being able to make that trip is heartbreaking!!!

Right after this trip, in September, the MLP: The Movie collection was available in all Ulta stores across the country, meaning my face, was in all Ulta stores across the country. Basically I was dead.

From working at Ulta, to my face being displayed in Ulta, so many goals had been reached and I am sincerely just continuously so grateful and thankful for each opportunity. I just wish I could have seen my old managers face when she say my displays!

Also in September, I was invited on a short trip to LA with Urban Decay to celebrate the launch of the new Troublemaker mascara and to meet the brand ambassador Nicole Richie!

I vlogged this trip and it’s wild adventures as well, which you can find here. PS Nicole Richie is an angel and I love her even more now.

Then one day, yes, one day, after I came home from the LA trip, I was sent to NYC with PUR for the MLP movie premiere and Gen Beauty NYC! I don’t have many photos from this trip but I have a vlog! I promise this year to be better and keeping up with both while on travel!

This was also my first time at Gen Beauty! I was blown away at how huge it was and how many people attended! My meet and greet was such a blast and I again loved meeting and squeezing each of you so much! The movie premiere was also a huge blast and such a fun experience! It definitely wasn’t your average premiere!

In October I launched my limited edition Halloween Hailie Barber merch, which was my very first merch item of my own! 2018 will be bringing you tons of new designs, so stay tuned!

This launch was so crazy because I did not expect so many of you to be excited about these tees! We had some record breaking numbers and it was an incredible feeling to see so many of you rocking the design!

Shortly after that, I went to ACL with Boohoo – one of my favorite clothing brands! Not many brands do much in Austin, which is surprising because Austin is so huge, so it was awesome to have an event be local for once!

ACL is one of my favorite festivals, I love going each year! I was styled in all Boohoo clothing, shoes, and accessories, plus Hugo and I were gifted with VIP wristbands – hello open bar!

Boohoo also invited my to their pop up shop opening party and I got to meet Brandi Cyrus, who was DJ-ing the event!

I also took a spur of the moment to Vegas to visit one of my long time best friends, Areane! We had never actually done Vegas together because when I lived these, we weren’t legal at the time! We also saw Post Malone in concert and oh man… As if I didn’t already love him enough!

It was also The Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour in October! If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge (borderline insane) Halsey stan and I am absolutely obsessed with her and her music. I have missed her show in three years and this one was the best yet! We were 12 rows from the stage and I had the outside of the isle so this was my second time locking hands with Halsey! Possibly weird to say out loud, but you guys truly do not understand the love and appreciation I have for her!

In November, Hugo and I began working on our biggest goal for 2018: building our dream home. This was one of the biggest achievements of 2017 and I cannot wait to get it all put together and sorted out in 2018! We have a long process and a ways to go but I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated along the way!

In December, I officially registered myself as a brand/company and am now Hailie Barber LLC! I cannot believe how quickly this once hobby, turned career has taken off and I am seriously speechless! We have come so far and I am so excited to see what our next path is and journey will bring!

I also finally, six months later after the fact, received my 100k subscribers YouTube play button in the mail.

It’s a Christmas miracle! But really, this plaque means so much to me. Never in a million years did I even think, or even dream, of this being my current life. I have done so much this past year and surpassed so many goals, but I could have never done any of it without the strong support system I have now. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I am where I am and I just keep pushing myself more and more everyday to keep reaching for the moon and keep grinding away.

Thank so much for all that helped me all the way in 2017, and cheers to 2018 and the adventures that are on their way! XO
